Bowen Therapy

Bowen Therapy is an holistic, non-invasive, touch therapy. It involves using fingers and thumbs moving over specific soft tissue targets including muscles, tendons and ligaments.

Most people who book Bowen Therapy are seeking relief from pain, typically in their back, neck or joints. They choose the therapy as a way to balance their body, relieve stress, prevent injury, enhance sporting performance or simply as a relaxing way to bring some calm and balance into a busy life.

What to expect from your first Bowen Treatment

After a consultation to evaluate past and present health concerns, current medication, and medical diagnosis, observations and assessments of functional issues will dictate the treatment plan.

During a session you will lie on the treatment couch, although the work can be effectively carried out sitting, side lying or standing if necessary. Most of the work can be performed through light clothing or directly on the skin. If you prefer treatment to be through clothing then please ensure it is light and non-restrictive.

A treatment normally lasts for 30-50 minutes. During the treatment it may be necessary to allow short breaks to give the body time to respond and adjust. This helps to rebalance the body, relieve tension and reduce pain.

Treatments are usually at weekly intervals, and three to five treatments are often enough to achieve lasting results. With chronic or degenerative conditions further treatment sessions or regular ‘top-ups’ may be helpful.
